A warm-hearted and ambitious woman, Olivia Pharo, spent her life looking after those around her and lives for the fulfilment she gets from seeing others get better.
“No amount of money can pay for the fulfilment I get from being a nurse and helping my patients get better every day,” says Olivia.
Once eager to be a social worker, Olivia was encouraged by her mother to go into nursing. She worked through every hospital department and found nursing sat deep in her being.
She is known in the Atlantis community for her small clinic that seemingly grew overnight. After recognising the demand for a paid clinic facility in Atlantis, Olivia created a name for herself and has since developed one that expands from the local individuals of the community to surrounding businesses and factories.
She laughs that she woke up one morning after an interview with the Daily Sun and found her face all over town – overnight fame at its best.
“I didn’t choose nursing; nursing chose me.”
Whilst her heart has always turned to those going through some struggle or sickness, she has a soft spot for the Khanyisile factory staff, a business 100% black-owned residents of the Atlantis community. Looking after this community ultimately helps to put food on their plates.
“I don’t want to be anything else; I love what I do, and I love who I do it for.”
What would communities such as Atlantis do without an Olivia Pharo in their lives?
