Kathleen Adams

Kathleen Adams, a supervisor at Khanyisile Fishing (KF), is an inspiration and mentor to many of the junior employees, having worked her way up from operating primarily as a general worker in the packaging department to the respected role that she holds today.

When she first started working at Khanyisile Fishing approximately 12 years ago, she had absolutely no training or prior experience in the seafood and fishing industry. Through hard work and dedication, she continued to impress her superiors and is extremely proud of where she is today. After leaving the company for a brief period of time, she returned shortly thereafter and has since been making magic happen at Khanyisile Fishing for almost 10 consecutive years. She talks about how she feels as though she has grown alongside the company.

“When you grow with the company, they look after you,” she says with fondness.

Kathleen also acknowledges how few other job opportunities are available within Atlantis and its surrounding areas, insisting that Khanyisile Fishing is one of the more dominant companies that actively creates jobs for residents, as well as individuals living nearby.

“My husband was recently retrenched and has struggled to find a new job, which means that I’m the primary breadwinner for now.”

Kathleen and her husband have two children, a 19-year-old who is studying business management at university with the hopes of making a name for herself within the business world one day, and a 12-year-old who is working hard at school. Kathleen smiles when she says that she knows that both her husband and her kids are proud of her and her achievements at work.

When asked about her professional ‘superpower’, Kathleen claims that her strength lies in her organisational skills and keeping her team on track to meet their targets and remain productive. She is focused on keeping her team positive and motivated every single day.

“We all feel very proud when we see our products in the freezers at the shops. It’s empowering knowing that, together, we accomplished that!”
