Cindy Morris

Khanyisile Fishing (KF) proudly employs over 80 females to help develop and uplift the close-knit Atlantis community. Cindy Morris is just one of those women who puts in the hard work and dedication necessary to create delicious seafood products for the rest of South Africa to enjoy.

Cindy has been working at Khanyisile Fishing for just over a decade. She moved from Cape Town to Atlantis with her daughter in 2011 to be closer to her father. She spends her days as a machine operator on the production line within the crumb department.

She speaks fondly of her female colleagues and says that she’s very proud of their teamwork.

“I love the people I work with. It’s almost like they’re family.”

Along with forming close friendships with her co-workers, Cindy speaks about the many perks of her job. The Khanyisile Fishing culture encourages all workers to get involved in different aspects of production, thus helping employees develop their skills further and optimise their industry knowledge. For Cindy, this is wonderful because she loves embracing new challenges and learning new things.

Despite admitting that it’s not easy to make ends meet at the moment, especially considering the impact of COVID-19 on the community and the country as a whole, Cindy is hugely grateful for her job. She acknowledges the vital role that Khanyisile Fishing plays in keeping many Atlantis residents on their feet by providing employment opportunities.

“The majority of other factories in the area don’t have any vacancies right now, and many others have closed their doors for good,” Cindy comments.

Like so many other South Africans, she’s determined to continue working as hard as she always has to prove her worth and retain her position. After all, her main goal is to give her daughters a better life and ensure that they have access to a world of exciting opportunities.
