Christine Jordaan

Born in Cape Town, Christine’s family moved to Atlantis when she was still a baby, and she has been a proud resident of the community ever since. She’s now married with three children and a young grandchild, with all her kids still living under her roof. She speaks about her family with such love and devotion. While she’s dedicated to her job at Khanyisile Fishing (KF) and feels good about her ability to provide for her family, she says that she wishes she could spend more time at home with her loved ones. After all, being close to them is her favourite thing in the whole world.

“My kids see me as a powerhouse woman. They are very proud of me,” she gushes.

It has been nine years since Christine first started working as a cleaner and general worker at Khanyisile Fishing, and she continues to work hard alongside the 80+ women who work together at the factory. She talks about how the work environment is always positive and welcoming.

“Every morning, everyone has a smile on their face. I love that. The environment is lovely. It’s great to work here.”

Christine explains how Khanyisile Fishing is a lifeline for many individuals living in Atlantis and how it is the primary source of jobs. The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted many other companies.

“If Khanyisile Fishing weren’t around, there wouldn’t be work for the Atlantis community. It’s the only factory in the area that continues to provide employment opportunities.”

When asked about her unique superpower, Christine immediately says that her strength lies in her ability to deal with other people.

“I’m a people-person. I like to be with people, and I’m very helpful,” she says with a smile.

So, what’s next for this incredible woman? Christine says she’s happy to remain at Khanyisile Fishing for as long as she can. She also hopes to one day save up enough money to buy a small house on a farm. As far as ambitions go, she wants her children to chase their dreams and pursue the opportunities to go after tertiary education.

“All I want is for my kids to go up, and up, and up!” she concludes.
